Dust

Paramount have worked closely with several of our partners in the printing industry to develop a system to remove dust from the slitting knifes on web presses, utilising specifically designed suction hoods on both sides of the web.

A dust covered web can cause many problems in the printing process; print quality can be reduced due to ink adhering to dust which later falls away (generally over the readers hands!), print can bleed due to the paper surface being contaminated, the dust can be carried along the web and effect other processes such as web coating and gluing, dust can fly off the web where it changes direction (such as rollers, formers etc) and be distributed over the press with its attendant cleaning and health hazards.

Over a period of a few years, the Paramount solution has been fine tuned to deliver optimum performance. Understanding airflow in and around the pick-up head is essential to solving this problem. Paramount have utilised their experience in this and other Industry Sectors, to come up with a solution where others have failed.

The suction can interfere with the web at slow speed. If it does, Paramount can fit an inverter to the fan controls and synchronise the fan speed with the web speed or use bleed dampers to balance the suction.
